A Melodious Monolith

Designing a private residence comes with the responsibility of designing a lifestyle’s flow and rhythm. In creating this residence, we aimed to construct and detail the place with a pure perspective, focusing on the rhythm of living and the need for a clutter-free daily life. Drawing on the genesis of musical notes, the space layout was orchestrated around the residence’s spine across which the rooms and the interior spaces were distributed. This integration of details elevating the space required a clean cut, polished and noble exterior defined by its purity. This is reflected in the way the Jerusalem stone cladding with its wood incorporations gave the building a sense of contemporary power whilst the Mashrabiya latticework across the doors, the interior corners, cabinets and handles added a sense of Jeddah locality. The resin flooring, aiming to accentuate the contrast with the monochromatic, minimalist furniture from B&B Italia, was crafted on site by a specialized artist. This musical, architectural statement worked in a consistent manner to reflect a melodic state of living - one defined by its occupants’ harmony.

A Stave in the Layout

In implementing a rhythmic purity that outlined the pattern of living within the residence, we laid out the functional spaces along the spine of the house which served like the residence’s own stave. The elevations and the perspectives were designed accordingly from the interior, modern staircase to the cubic, polished courtyard. By incorporating subdued hues of beige, blue and other monochromatic elements in the furniture, the tables and the curtains, we ensured that this monolith residence is elevated by its own architecture - ensured that it is a space that sings its own statement and hums a certain tune whilst being elevated by its dulcet interior tones.
