The Concept Me team is all about having conversations in between the work. There’s always one or another topic to be discussed and the opinions are always varied and plenty. We realized one of the things people rarely speak about is resilience and the impact it has on success and a person’s overall capabilities. Nina has always been someone who promotes resilience, or as she likes to put it, grit. Some of us perceive resilience as this stubbornness towards achieving something and others believe it is an innate quality that’s programmed in us.
Regardless of the many words, definitions and dresses that resilience can adorn itself with, we unanimously agreed that resilience is a character trait that is integral to any form of accomplishment, self-enablement and overall satisfaction with one’s self. In this revolving, non-pausing world, resilience has become even more essential. There are too many options, too many opportunities, too many different roads to choose from. One scrolling session on any social media platform can leave a person dazed and confused as to what their original goal is, because they are exposed to over a million other peoples’ goals and paths. This is when resilience proves its…resilience. This is because grit and a resilient focus make sure you don’t’ shy away from the path, make sure you stick your ground and stay focused.
On another hand, resilience is a reflection of a person’s core. Everyone deserves to get what they want if they earn it and work for it. As long as there is no harm done in the thing you want, why not try to get it in every possible way? Nina is notoriously known for her statement of, ‘Keep asking for the thing until it’s done. You have to do it with style, but keep asking even if it comes off as nagging.’ In a way, there is a motivational appeal to that. Part of this gritty sense of hardcore resilience is the patient mode of knowing that you will get what you seek, you just need to knock on the right doors and keep trying.
In its own brand, resilience also comes off as a source of hope. From what we know of resilient people is their tendency to become more patient and much more equipped to deal with the world in a calmer sense. People who lack resilience will be aggravated, impatient, unable to cope with the timeframes and the realistic rhythm of the world around them. They tend to lose sight of what they want, cast the blame of their failures on this or that or this, remove themselves from opportunities because they didn’t have the right dedication or were not willing to invest time, effort or patience into something.
The Concept Me company history is defined by resilience, one that stemmed from Nina and her continuous drive forward. This showed itself in the two times the company had to be restarted from scratch after partners pulling out or people working in dubious ways and in the way that Nina was able to direct the company’s strategy into a more global one after recognizing her dissatisfaction with the status quo and in the future plans that we have for the company. So, yes, as Concept Me, we are pretty familiar with resilience and we discuss it on the regular – among other things including food, pets, more food, then some more food.
One of the things we collectively have experienced at the Concept Me Studio is that resilience pays off. There has never been a time when hard work, mixed with that rush of disciplined stubbornness and a refusal to take no for answer didn’t yield the best results. Sometimes the results are not exactly what you asked for, they’re even better. You just have to grit your teeth and go get it.
